A “draw Mohammad” event held by a group of armed bikers outside a Phoenix mosque brought hundreds of participants, supporters and counter-protesters, and ended several hours later without incident.
An armed motorcycle gang will draw pictures of Mohammad on Friday, outside the mosque in Arizona which was once site of worship for Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, who were killed after opening fire outside a May 3 contest featuring cartoons of Mohammed in suburban Dallas.
Jinn Habibi, who has a Twitter account, has reportedly been converted to Islam by a self-proclaimed spiritual healer through a series of tweets. The healer published the conversation, which some say is fabricated. In it, Habibi proclaims “my conversion to Islam at the hands of the sheikh. I testify that there is only one God and Muhammad is the messenger of God.” Habibi’s previous beliefs are unknown.
According to Islamic belief, jinn are non-corporeal – created from “smokeless fire” by God – and can choose to be Muslim, Christian, atheist or even Scientologist.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair said today that Britain and the U.S. “should be prepared to reach out and cooperate with the East, and in particular, Russia and China” to stand against radical Islam, and back “revolution” in countries such as Iran.
Blair said “this struggle between what we may call the open-minded and the closed-minded” will determine whether the 21st century will be peaceful.
